The Wade Hampton Club, named after General Wade Hampton III, is located at an elevation of 3,650 feet just south of Cashiers on Hwy 107 S. General Hampton became Governor of South Carolina in 1876 and then extended his service to become a US Senator as well as a Cabinet Member for President Cleveland. . With the hot summers in SC, the General spent his summers in cool Cashiers.
Designed by Tom Fazio Wade Hampton's Golf Course has been recognized as one of "America's Best Residential Golf Courses." It also was named as the "Best New Private Course for 1987" by Golf Digest magazine. Built within the last 50 years, it also holds the distinction to be currently ranked in the top 20 courses in the United States. If golf is your game, that is the focus of the club.
