What To Do in Sapphire?

Attracting visitors from all over the Southeast United States, Sapphire Valley is easily accessible. Offering many amenities, Sapphire Valley is an outdoor enthusiast paradise.

  • For the golf fanatic, there are over 14 world-class golf courses in this area. The unique elevations create numerous shot-making opportunities. Be sure you get in a round at the popular Sapphire Mountain Golf Course.
  • For visitors who want to hit the trail, great hiking venues abound. Sapphire is home to Whitewater Falls-the highest waterfall east of the Rockies dropping 411?. There are over 250 waterfalls in Transylvania County so always have a camera handy.
  • If you are an angler, you fill find some of the best fly fishing in the US. Whether you are a novice or the expert angler, WhiteWater Fly Fishing is there to plan your trip.
  • For those desiring more adventure, be sure to bring your mountain bike or book one of the many whitewater outfitters located in the area. For those who relish a more sedate past time we recommend you mine for gemstones or take a trail ride at WhiteWater Equestrian Center.

Sapphire was named because of the numerous sapphires found in the area in the 1800's. Keep a sharp eye out as there are still plenty of gems to be found today. Of course you can always sit back, relax and take in nature’s beauty during the fall months with the changing of the leaves.

Found in Sapphire are three stream fed lakes- Whisper Lake, Hogback Lake, and Fairfield Lake. All three lakes offer recreational activities such as fishing, swimming, kayaking, and canoeing.  Surrounding these lake are private homes, condos, townhomes, and timeshare condos managed by the Wyndham Corporation, a resort development company.  Hiking trails abound, with some going into the neighboring Panthertown Valley, owned by the US Forest Service.  Here you can trail ride on some of the 6000 acres.  In the wintertime Sapphire offers day or evening skiing, tubing, and sledding. In the area is Gorges State Park. One will find 3 of over 50 waterfalls found in the area.  Just down the road on 281South is WhiteWater Falls, highest waterfall east of the Rockies dropping 411 feet...A Must See!  Close by is WhiteWater Equestrian Center offering trail riding, gem mining, and fly fishing.  Come join the family fun!
Sapphire is a great place to live.  One of the largest subdivisions....only because it has 13 different smaller sections dotting the area is Holly Forest.  All home owners belong to the Wyndham Fairfield Home Owner's Association which provides wonderful year round amenities for around $600/year.   Be sure to check out this neighborhood to see all the amenities for both young and the not so young.
